Emergency Essentials order for April due April 22

Freeze dried banana dices, #10 can,  $14.00 (originally $23.95).  I know dehydrated bananas are cheaper than freeze dried, I have no experience to know the difference in taste.  Must order 12 to receive discount.

Katadyn Hiker microfilter, $49.99 (reg. $74.95)  This is a good water filter, but the filter only lasts for about 200 gallons before you need to replace it.  If you want to spend $100, you can get a much better filter at REI, called a Sawyer, which filters 10,000 gallons.

Beqa cheese, in a can, the size of canned chicken.  7.05 oz.  $3.39.  If we order 6 or more, $3.29 each.

Sour cream powder, #10 can, $19.99.  If we order 6 or more, $18.99 each.  (I have some of this.  It should be used in baking or in Mexican casseroles, not as straight sour cream.  It doesn't taste quite the same.  I didn't like it in spinach dip.)

IOSAT Potassium Iodide Tablets.  14 tablets (enough to treat one person for two weeks).  $9.99 per set.  These block the thyroid from absorbing radioactivity after a nuclear disaster.  Remember how everyone was ordering these just after the Fukishima disaster?  

Nutrimill Wheat Grinder and Bagger combo,  $229.99.  This is a really good price.

In my opinion, here are some of the good deals this month:

Group specials:  (If we get one set of these, all of our order has free shipping.)  If you look at these on their website, the more expensive price shows.  If you click on it, the cheaper price shows.

Freeze dried chopped spinach.  #10 cans. We need to order 12 cans, to get the sale price of $9 (instead of $13.95) and free shipping.

As a group leader, they sent me a free can of FD spinach to try.  I ADORE spinach dip, and buy frozen chopped spinach for $1 per package.  So I tested the FD spinach, and it rehydrated in just a couple of minutes, and I made some spinach dip, and couldn't tell the difference.  I am definitely going to buy some, because then I can make spinach dip anytime I want to without running to the store for the frozen stuff.

I will give a small baggie of freeze dried spinach to anyone who wants to try it out.  Just come over and get some.

Dehydrated Chopped Onions.  #10 cans.  We need to order 12 cans, to get the sale price of $8 (instead of $10.95.) and free shipping.

I compared the Emergency Essentials price of $8 for 30 oz, to Sam's Club price of $13.88 for 50 oz.  The EE price was .27 per ounce, and the Sam's Club price was .28 per ounce.  So it wasn't a huge savings, but if you are in the market for dehydrated onions anyway, please consider buying them here so we can get the free shipping.

Heirloom Seed Combo Pack.  $18.99.  These are good to buy if you believe we are going to have to live off of our gardens someday.  Keep seeds in your freezer, and rotate them every year.

Freeze-dried Chicken Breast strips.  $28.99 each.  (About 50 cents cheaper if we buy 6 or more.)  I have heard this meat turns out really good when rehydrated, just like freshly cooked.  I haven't tried it myself.

Provident Pantry Instant Nonfat Dry Milk (the blue label). #10 can.   $15.49 each, regular $19.95.  (About 50 cents cheaper if we buy 6 or more.)  This is the milk that my friend's family said is the very best to drink.

Mr. Heater Big Buddy, $136.99. Heats up to 400 sq ft.   (This is the one I have.  It has a battery-powered fan.).  I saw a couple in the clearance department at Walmart last week for $129, there might be one left.

Mr. Heater Portable Buddy.  $94.95.  Heats up to 200 sq ft.  (It also has a battery powered fan.)

Mr. Heater Little Buddy.  $69.95.  

Kelly Kettle, outdoor cooking system, base camp combo.  $109.95.  My husband has been wanting to buy this, he thinks it is a great way to cook while camping.

Boxed Water Kits.  Kit containing 5 boxes/bags, $30.99. Kit containing 20 boxes/bags, $114.99.   Each box when filled weighs 40 lbs.  Stackable up to 3 high to save floor space.  My mom has these in all her closets.

I am postponing the due date for the checks for Emergency Essentials.  WE DID NOT GET ENOUGH ORDERS TO MAKE THE FREE SHIPPING.  We're not even close on the tomato powder, but if 3 more cans of freeze dried chicken are ordered, we would get the great price on the chicken and also get free shipping on everything else.  Any more takers on the chicken?  And for those of you who ordered tomato powder, want to pay $8 more dollars and change your tomato powder order to chicken instead?

Here is the website for the group orders.  Give a check made out to me by Sunday, Feb. 13.  Do not give it to me in the chapel.  You can also mail it or bring it to my house (Look on Morrisville ward google group email for my name and address).  There is no shipping charge if we make it to the number needed on the group order.

Emergency Essentials has some items on special each month, which are only a special price if enough people order them.  (You, personally, only have to order one, the rest of the group can order some to make up the amount.  You do not have to order all 12.)  The website page is not very clear on this, I receive the paper catalog and it has a better description.  For this month,  these are the specials:

Be aware when you go to that website, for some reason they are not showing you the sale price, they are showing the regular price for those group specials.  I typed these prices straight from the paper catalog so the cheaper prices I listed are the group special prices.  I expect they will see their error soon and correct their website.

Disclaimer:  There are hundreds of great food storage companies on the internet.  I am not saying this one is better than any of the others.  The only reason we are doing this order is because they have a good group order policy, and their prices on the group orders are usually pretty good.

I have had the freeze dried strawberry slices, they are very good. I know nothing about the other products.
